The Japan Page has Erectile Dysfunction...

Not this Japan Page, of course. The fake one on www.japanpage.org ...

Way back when I posted an entry Setting the Record Straight about how my old domain www.japanpage.org, which I allowed to lapse, was picked up and turned into one of those content sparse brand name drug peddling landing pages...

While cleaning out my Junk E-mail folder today, I found a passionate reply from the domain owner Shanon Fernald. Note I didn't say webmaster, she admits content updates are not her style. Anyway, read on... it's quite amusing. I've conveniently attached my reply to the bottom of the post.

Please note the following:
1. I'm not out to set off a flame war. (Oops, too late ! )
2. I'm not angry at Shanon, she's just trying to make a cyber buck.
3. I didn't accuse her of being a spammer in my original post. I just noted that the brand name drugs her site links to are similar to the ones in my Junk E-mail folder.

Subject: hey

I just noticed your blog, specifically this entry:

http://www.japan-page.net/blog/archives/2006/02/setting_the_rec.html

And I must ask the question, 'what did I do to you?'. Why must you post my name in a public forum and condemn me? I didn't do anything to you. My site is my site. I didn't steal the name from you. It was available for anybody to pick up. My site is simple but it doesn't mean it is not useful in some ways. And so I have an ad up on it, selling, oh my gosh, diet and sex drugs. These are actually useful products to a large number of people (people don't always like going to the doctors for these types of things). Anyway, it is one line of text, no images, and most importantly no spam like you get in your inbox every day.

If you want I will be happy to sell you the domain. I have no specific love for it. Perhaps you would like to put your old site back up on it?

Anyway, I just don't understand where all the anger is coming from. You don't know me and I never did anything to you. It is a site that a developer from romania built for $35 and it has and will not be touched again. I'm just trying to make my investment back. Yes, its just a business to me, like buying a house as a rental. I can understand some people fall in love with their properties, but I hope you can understand the other side of the coin.

Hi Shanon,

As a professional photographer and long term resident of Japan, I find the sad excuse you call your web site a joke and completely deserving of public derision.

Thank you for the e.mail though, I would never have otherwise known that you bought it for $35 from a Romanian developer. (Note the capital "R" in Romania.) Nor would I have known that you are pledging to never update your content.

My posting is more of an editorial on the sad state of the internet, how people are willing to snarf some content, and copyrighted images too, then try to make a buck selling sildenafil citrate, phenethylamine, tadalafil and tetrahydrolipstatin. Just in case you're not an expert in the pharmaceuticals you sell either, you shouldn't take two of those... hardware isn't compatible.

My only concern is that my long lost friends might come across the domain and think I'd become a... drug pushing fake ? Too harsh? How about money grubbing snarfed content copyright violating individual?

Note: You need the (R) and (TM) symbol after the brand name drugs you sell. As for those photos of Japan marked (C) JapanVisitor.com...

Anyhow, good luck, hope you recover your investment through affiliate commissions. If my advertising hit ratio is any comparison, you should break even in 58.333 years. Personally, I host content and pictures I made myself on my web site just for the heck of it. I don't care if I break even on hosting fees...

I will hereby pledge to update my site on occasion. In fact, I think I'll post this...

Nice, I hate those stupid pages too. They host a few words or paragraphs of content hoping to show up high enough in a search engine to get traffic. Then they fill the page with drug adverts... Dweebs !
